Compliance at a glance
April 2025

Path

As you may have noticed, last month REPIC rebranded and will be known as Ecogenesys going forward. Our rebrand is a trading name change only. Our compliance scheme names and officially company name and address, remain the same. This means that there is very little that our members will need to do in response to this change.

What do you need to update?

  • When contacting us by email, please use @ecogenesys.co.uk instead of @repic.co.uk for example, Jack’s email is now jstudholme@ecogenesys.co.uk. Please rest assured, our emails will redirect for the time being.
  • If you mention REPIC on any of your materials or on your website, please update this to Ecogenesys. Please contact hgraham@ecogenesys.co.uk if you require our new logo or updates to documents.
  • If you link to our website to fulfil your obligation of providing information consumers about their role in recycling electricals, please update the link to https://ecogenesys.co.uk/about/consumer/. Again, please rest assured, our website will redirect for the time being.

Alongside our rebrand, we have also launched a series of additional services to further support our members. To find out more, visit our website www.ecogenesys.co.uk.

We would like to invite all members to our 2025 AGM on 18th June at the Natural History Museum in London. This event will be an opportunity to hear the latest updates regarding environmental compliance. If you would like to attend, please contact info@ecogenesys.co.uk.

As of 31 March 2025, all businesses and relevant non-domestic premises in England now need to arrange for the collection of the core recyclable waste streams, with the exception of garden waste (glass, metal, plastic, paper and card, and food waste).

Micro-firms (businesses with fewer than 10 full-time equivalent employees) will be temporarily exempt from this requirement. They will have until 31 March 2027 to arrange for recycling of core recyclable waste streams.

We recommend you speak to your waste contractor to ensure your business complies with these regulations.

Submission Deadline

At the end of April, members will have to submit their Q1 EEE and Battery returns to the Environment Agency. The deadline to get this data to Ecogenesys will be 21st April.

Packaging EPR: Proposed modulated fee methodology

Defra (Pack UK) has shared the proposed approach to modulated fees, which will apply to household packaging that is placed on the market from 2025 onwards. Producers are required to self-assess the recyclability of their household packaging as Red, Amber or Green in accordance with the RAM (Recyclability Assessment Methodology). The proposal is that Local Authority Disposal Fees (“Base Fees”) for packaging will be modulated as follows:

  • Red: Base Fees for the relevant packaging material will be uplifted by a modulation factor;
  • Amber: Base fees for the relevant packaging material will apply;
  • Green: Base fees will be discounted on a percentage basis, that is identical across all packaging materials.

The table below provides the proposed modulation factor that will apply for packaging that is classed as red packaging in the next three years:
