Placing e-waste collection points in Groupe SEB’s office space sees employees depositing over 300kg of small electricals for recycling in four months.

In 2024, Ecogenesys and Groupe SEB installed an electrical waste collection point at Groupe SEB’s shared office, Botanica, Ditton Park in Berkshire.

The initiative has proven to be an effective way for the 650 employees based at Botanica, to build on the office’s strong eco-friendly practices and help bolster the recycling efforts of electronic waste (e-waste) at a local level.

The e-waste collection box, located in the common area by the reception desk, offers an easy and accessible solution for employees to dispose of their unwanted small electricals. This eliminates the need for special trips to recycling centres, as employees can drop off their e-waste on their daily commute into the office.

This convenience has led to a steady stream of e-waste contributions, with the collection box serving as a daily visual reminder for employees to check their homes, garages, and sheds for any old or unused electrical items that might otherwise be forgotten or discarded improperly.

By offering this option in a workplace setting, the initiative encourages employees to contribute more frequently, ensuring that valuable resources are kept in circulation for longer, supporting the principles of the circular economy.

Since its installation in June, the collection point at the Botanica, Ditton Park has already seen impressive results. Between June and October 2024, over 300 kilograms of small electrical items were collected, ranging from old mobile phones and chargers to small kitchen appliances and accessories. These items will now be responsibly recycled with valuable raw materials recovered.
