What is WEEE?

WEEE is an acronym for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment. It covers virtually everything with a plug, battery or cable.

If you produce, import, rebrand or sell electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) in the UK, you have a legal obligation to comply with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2013.

What to look for in a producer responsibility partner?

Ecogenesys acts as an extension of your internal team, always operating in your best interests. As a producer-owned, not-for-profit compliance scheme, we ensure all members – large or small – are treated equally and only pay the true cost of compliance.

Every electrical producer, placing more than 5 tonnes of EEE onto the UK market is obliged to join a producer compliance scheme. As an approved WEEE compliance scheme, Ecogenesys finances the collection and treatment of end-of-life electrical and electronic products on behalf of producer members to help them comply with their regulatory obligations. Producers comprise the majority of our board of directors, so have a direct say in what we do and how we do it.

Our WEEE compliance scheme provides high quality, cost effective, market leading compliance services to household (B2C) and non-household (B2B) producers. Ecogenesys is proud to be the UK’s largest WEEE compliance scheme.

Professional networks

We work closely with local authorities, retailers, distributors and authorised and approved treatment facilities (AATF’s) to give members peace-of-mind that all waste is properly transported, handled and processed with clear auditable routes.

Our bespoke WEEE management system maintains cradle-to-grave tracking, offering a quality assured service to all our scheme members.

On behalf of our producer members, we have built strong affiliations with leading organisations in the producer responsibility sector and provide a respected voice to engage with UK Government and industry stakeholders. This enables our members to have a say on the issues of today, that will impact producer responsibility tomorrow.

What do I need to do next?

Make sure you meet your compliance obligations

If you place, or expect to place, more than five tonnes of EEE on the UK market in a compliance year (January – December), you must register with an approved Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Producer Compliance Scheme (PCS)  by 15th November prior to each compliance year.

We will support you throughout the process and ensure you remain compliant.
